The 2015 Apps for Good App Launch, powered by Facebook and hosted by Thomson Reuters, is fast approaching – 05 February is only a few weeks away! We’re really looking forward to everyone downloading and using the amazing apps created by our seven winning teams. In our continuing countdown blog series we’re giving you an overview of each of the apps, and today it’s time to find out more about Pocket Money Pig.
Pocket Money Pig is a virtual piggy bank which allows families to track what’s been promised and paid for fewer family quibbles. The app won the Saving, Spending and Giving category sponsored by Barclaycard at the Apps for Good Awards 2014 in June. Pocket Money Pig was created by Christopher, George and Ross, primary school students from The Wroxham School in Hertfordshire – the youngest students to have ever won our competition!
The boys all had disagreements with their families about pocket money and wanted to create an app to tackle this issue. Their app helps families keep track of pocket money and loans to avoid arguments. Check out the video below where the boys tells us about the background to their app idea and the key lessons they’ve taken away from their Apps for Good experience.
Since their win in June the boys have been working hard to turn their prototype app, developed during the Apps for Good course, into a finished product. Throughout this process the boys have been supported by Barclaycard and development agency Codeten. Chris Wood, managing director, Barclaycard, recently commented, “It’s been a pleasure for us to help the students from Wroxham School to bring their winning app to market. We’ve been impressed with their creativity and hard work.” The boys have certainly worked hard in the last few months – fitting in app development meetings during their busy school days.
All their effort has paid off and their app will be officially launched at the Apps for Good App Launch on 05 February!
Download Pocket Money Pig and avoid family quibbles about pocket money, and don’t forget to tell your friends about it too!
