The 2015/16 academic year is an important moment in Apps for Good’s history, as we celebrate our first 5 years in schools.
We first launched in September 2010, delivering our course to just 25 students in one school: the Central Foundation School for Girls in Tower Hamlets, East London.
Since then, we’ve reached more than 50,000 students in over 1,000 schools across the entire UK and now internationally.
Supported by 1,100 Experts and 27 corporate partners, students have developed 10,000 app prototypes, with 34 of those launched on the market in our national competition.
But this is about more than numbers, as proud as we are of them.
It’s about the journey our students have gone on: the confidence and skills they’ve gained to help them change their world through technology. It’s about the transformational apps that are making a difference to communities. It’s about the teachers who are helping us to transform education and impact even more young people. And it’s about our Experts and partners who are committed to growing the next generation of entrepreneurs, giving their time and support to our students and teachers.
And so we want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has been part of the Apps for Good movement these last five years. We can’t wait for what the next five years hold!
We’ll be kicking off celebrations at the Apps for Good App Launch on 4 February. Join in by sharing your favourite Apps for Good memory or app or tell us what you hope to see in the future using #AfG5years.
