Top tips for entering the Apps for Good Awards 2016

We can’t quite believe it but it’s that time of year again. Yes, that’s right, it’s time to enter the Apps for Good Awards! Our Awards are a chance for students to have their hard work recognised and to celebrate all that they have achieved in the last year. With so many great entries it’s always a challenge for our judges to narrow down finalist teams. However, there are a few things you can do to help your students create a top notch entry.

A good entry could help your team win at the Apps for Good Awards in London

Make sure our judges can see students’ work

It may sound obvious, but if our judges can’t see students’ work then they cannot make an informed decision about their app idea. It’s really important that students ensure links to their pitch videos, wireframes and any other work are publicly accessible. We recommend sharing videos and wireframes via a file sharing site like Dropbox, Youtube or Google Drive.

This year we’ve also created a ‘Validate URLs’ feature to help students check their links are working. After completing their entries students just need to click the ‘Validate URLs’ button which will let them know if any of their links are broken or invalid. It’s a great and fast way for students to check their work.

Make the most of the pitch video

The pitch video is a great opportunity for students to explain their app and show their passion for their idea. A great pitch video doesn’t require fancy camera equipment or hours of editing. Instead, students should think of this as an opportunity to confidently tell our judges about their app. To help, one of our Fellows has created a short video with some helpful hints and tips about creating a pitch video to be proud of. His key advice – be confident, be creative and be yourself. Check it out now!

Enter our new Employability Skills Prizes

This year we want to recognise the student teams  who may not have come up with a killer app idea but have excelled in certain areas of the course. This year we will present 3 teams with prizes for marketing, coding and research. Entering is easy, all students need to do is fill in some additional questions at the end of their standard Awards entry. Winners of the Employability Prizes will be invited to attend the Apps for Good Awards ceremony in London.
